Troubleshooting
Something not working as expected? Find what you see below. Still stuck? Email contact@opticsystems.be and we'll help.
Windows warned me when I opened the installer
That's expected for now: the installer isn't code-signed yet. Click More info, then Run anyway. The download page explains why.
The camera isn't working
The message under the video says “No camera found. Connect a webcam, then press Restart camera.” or “Camera stopped responding.”
- Check the camera is plugged in. Try another USB port.
- Close other apps that might be using it, such as Teams, Zoom or the Windows Camera app.
- In SETTINGS → Camera, click ⟳ and pick your camera from the list.
- On LIVE ANALYSIS, press Restart camera.
If the camera still doesn't show up, check that it works in the Windows Camera app, and that camera access is allowed in Windows Settings → Privacy & security → Camera.
Calibration won't finish
- Face the camera straight on, arms out to the sides. Standing sideways gives “Pose looks too narrow.”
- Both hands must be in the picture. “Step back!” means it can't see your wrists.
- “Rotate Camera! Skewed” means the camera isn't square to you. Turn it until the number is below 15%.
- Hold completely still at the end. Any correction starts the count again.
- Better light helps: light in front of you, no bright window behind you.
More on this on the camera setup page.
My shots aren't being detected
- Is Start shooting pressed? The button should be red and say Stop shooting.
- Your whole body, including both hands at full draw, must stay in the picture.
- Lower both arms fully between shots, so it can tell one shot from the next.
- Hold your anchor still for about a second.
- Is the picture choppy? Stages are then picked up late or missed. See the next question.
- Still missing a stage? In SETTINGS → Stage detection, set that stage to Loose. Picking up stages that aren't there? Try Strict.
The picture is choppy or lagging
- Set Camera Resolution: to 640x480 in SETTINGS → Camera.
- Set AI Quality: to Fast (beta) and restart the app.
- Close other programs, and plug a laptop into power. On battery, Windows often slows it down.
To see the actual speed: press Active rules on LIVE ANALYSIS. The PIPELINE line shows the frame rate of the camera, the pose analysis and the screen. Around 30 fps is smooth.
My shots aren't being saved
- No subscription active? If the line under DISCIPLINE in the left bar starts with “Free:”, you're on the free version: coaching and replay work, but nothing is saved. Activate your subscription with Enter licence key; see getting started.
- Training as Guest? Shots are saved per archer. Add yourself with the + next to USER.
- “Could not start the video recording.” or “Recording may be incomplete. Check disk space.” usually means the disk is nearly full. Free some space, or choose another folder in SETTINGS → Data storage.
Activating my license fails
After a successful activation, close OpticArchery and open it again to unlock everything.
Where are my files?
Your archers, sessions, shot videos and PDF reports are stored on your own PC, in %APPDATA%\OpticArchery. The quickest way there: SETTINGS → Data storage → Open data folder. You can also pick a different folder there, for example on a larger disk.
Uninstalling OpticArchery does not delete this folder, so reinstalling keeps your history and your license.
Sending us a log file
If we ask for a log, it helps us see what went wrong:
- On LIVE ANALYSIS, press Active rules, then Open log. Or find
app.login%APPDATA%\OpticArchery. - Attach it to an email to contact@opticsystems.be, together with your version number. It's at the bottom of SETTINGS.
The log holds the app's technical messages. It contains no videos or images.
